Ferndale Public Library's Queer for Books Continues with Two Picks for Summer!

FERNDALE – The quickly growing Queer for Books Book Club has announced their book picks for July and August.
On Saturday, July 23, the group will discuss Band Fags! By Frank Anthony Polito, a book following Jack, a boy discovering the complicated nature of sexuality, through 1980s Hazel Park, as he grows up amidst Atari, Dallas and life in the school band.
There will also be a special door prize for those who attend the discussion. On Aug. 27, Queer for Books will be discussing Go Tell It On The Mountain by James Baldwin.
The semi-autobiographical novel examines the role of the Christian Church in the lives of African-Americans as well as racism in pre-Civil Rights era America.

Writer Paul Vachon will host a signing of his new book, "South Oakland County" at the Barnes and Noble store at 500 S. Main St. in Royal Oak from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, July 12.
South Oakland County is part of the "Then and Now" series by Arcadia Publishing and features over 90 pages of vintage images from Oakland County's southern tier set against contemporary shots of the same location.
The accompanying narrative explores the differences and similarities and offers a trove of little known historical facts about the scenes pictured.
Refreshments will be served, and the store will have copies available for purchase.
